When Faith Hurts: Effective MDT Responses to the Spiritual Impact of Child Abuse
In honor of National Faith and Blue Weekend, NDAA and Zero Abuse Project are partnering to help support and reinforce the importance of collaboration between law enforcement professionals and the communities they serve. Many maltreated children are spiritually impacted by abuse and require a coordination of medical, mental health, and spiritual care. This presentation will examine the research and explore creative reforms for bringing faith and child protection communities together to protect children and address their needs. The workshop also explores how MDTs can recognize and respond to spiritual injuries before, during and after the forensic interview.

Learning Objectives:
1. Receive an overview of research on the spiritual impact of child abuse.

2. Learn to recognize spiritual injuries and to address this dynamic before, during and after a forensic interview.

3. Learn best practice for coordinating medical, mental health, and spiritual care.

4. Learn of potential benefits to adding a chaplain to a CAC or an MDT.
